Week of June 13th

June 12, 2016

Hope everyone had a great weekend! Here is what’s coming up This Week At HDSMS: June 13th

Information To Share:

Fundraising Awesomeness: Our last PAC fundraiser of the year, DFS, was a HUGE success, with us raising over $500. Shout out to Justin G for being the top fundraiser. Thanks to Sarah Miller for all her work this year in fundraising.

Grade 8 Camp Meeting: At the end of September, our current grade 7s (next year’s grade 8s) will be heading of to Kawkawa Lake for their Grade 8 Camp. Having this amazing opportunity at the beginning of the year creates strong bonds between the students and sets the stage for these students to be leaders all year long. There will be an informational meeting on Wednesday June 15th from 7:00 – 8:00pm for all current grade 7 parents. Please plan to attend.

Skyhawks Football Mini Camp: Our 2 day mini-football camp will be held on Wednesday, June 15th and Friday, June 17th at HD Stafford from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm. This will be a non-contact football skills camp. The players will be required to wear a t-shirt, shorts and cleats. This camp will help the kids get familiarized with one another and the coaching staff. This camp is FREE. Our ultimate goal is to teach the fundamentals, while increasing individual skills and confidence. Please see Mr. Safiq if you have any questions

Year End Awards Assembly: We will be having our year end awards assembly on Monday June 27th at 9:00am. Parents will be notified if their child is receiving one of the major awards.

Last Day of School: The last day of school is Wednesday June 29th. This is the day to pick up report cards. Busses will drop off at normal time and then pick up at 9:30am.

Wrestling On Hold: The after school wrestling program is currently on hold. We have Chris Rinke coming during the grade 7 & 8 elective blocks to work with our grade 8s

Class Requests For Next Year: Each spring staff put in a considerable amount of time in creating classes for the following year that are conducive to powerful learning for each student. And while we have many things to base these decisions, parent input can be helpful as well. There are no guarantees, however if you have some input you’d like to share you must email Mr Davids (sdavids@sd35.bc.ca) prior to June 17th.

Summer Session Registration: Langley School District is proud to once again be offering a comprehensive summer session offering. You can find all the Middle Years opportunities by clicking here as well as all the Secondary School offerings by clicking here. HD Stafford will be hosting a 6 week program connected to 212 for grade 6 – 8. We will also be offering a 2 week program for our incoming grade 5s to help transition them to our school. More information is available at www.sd35summersession.ca

What’s Up At LSS: Each week Langley Secondary puts out a blog celebrating the awesome things going on there.  So many things going on this week including Fine Arts week,  our Rugby team 5th in the province (top public school in BC), inspiring students honoured AND the most important piece to share out:  Our grade 12s have won the highest number of local and district scholarships in the district for the 6th time in the past 7 years! Please click HERE for this week’s edition!
