October 10th

October 10, 2016

Happy Thanksgiving! Hope you all enjoyed some time with family and friends. we have lots going on for the next few days so here is what’s going on This Week At HDSMS: October 3rd.

Information To Share:

Grade 6 Reporting: With the re-designed curriculum upon us and the start of looping at the grade 6 level, our teachers are in conversation about the role of letter grades on our grade 6 report cards. As we continue to focus on powerful feedback, consistent learning with summative check-ins as well as performance based standards, we are looking to remove letter grades from the grade 6 report cards to focus on how students are performing based on grade level expectations. There is much research behind these ideas. We have shared some below in our Professional Learning section.

Consulting with parents is an important part of this process so we like to invite interested parents to stay after the next PAC meeting on October 19th to share their thoughts and questions about this shift. And of course, please don’t hesitate to contact Mr. Davids at school either by email, phone or in person. We are excited about this significant move forward in re-focusing on learning for our students.

Ignite 35: We will be having Ignite 3.0 on November 30th at Fort Langley Pub. This amazing Pro D event has speakers share powerful stories connected to education. This year’s theme is If I Knew Then What I Know Now! We are looking for speakers so here is the link to apply The application deadline is Friday, October 21.

Athletics/Intramural Schedule: We have a lot going on with regards to athletics and intramurals so please click here each week to see the latest schedule.
