May 22, 2017
Hopefully everyone had a wonderful May Long Weekend … the weather certainly did not disappoint! But after that long, snowy winter, it’s still too soon to say it’s “too hot.” We have a busy week coming up so please read through the information carefully.
Information To Share:
Truth And Reconciliation Ceremony: On Thursday, May 25th, HD Stafford Middle will be holding their Truth and Reconciliation ceremony at 10:00. This amazing event will signify our school’s commitment to acknowledging Aboriginal perspectives and world views, not only in understanding the past, but in positively shaping the future. Parents and community members are welcome to join us for this significant event.
Dress Guidelines: As the weather starts to get warmer, just a reminder of the district Dress Guidelines. HD Stafford is a learning environment and staff and students are required to dress accordingly. Please take a moment to go over this with your child.
Changes For Grade 6s For 2017 – 2018: While I’m sure many of you have heard about some of the changes for our grade 6s heading into grade 7, we wanted to outline them for you in one email. With the Supreme Court Ruling regarding class size and composition in place for September 2017, it will mean some changes for our student.
- IFA: We will not have IFA in its current form for next year and subsequent years. Our goal is to spread the philosophies of our IFA program (integrated units, collaboration between classes, learning through the arts) to our other classes.
- Looping: We are still looping as many students and staff as possible. The new class size and composition guidelines mean that we will have two extra divisions at the grade 7 level therefore we will have to move some of our students. Teachers are working collaboratively to ensure that all students end up in the best learning environment possible.
- Class Size And Composition: The language of the agreement means that class sizes will be smaller than in previous years and will have less students with designations in each. This will go a long way to improve the learning environment for all our students.
We are very excited about the opportunities that lay ahead as we navigate these significant changes to our system. We are lucky to have so many amazing students and we look forward to continuing to work towards them having a successful experience here at HD Stafford Middle. if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
