The Stafford SCOOP Jan. 9th, 2023

Week of Jan. 9, 2023

Happy Sunday Skyhawks Parents & Guardians!

The first official week of 2023 is in the books and our Skyhawks are off to a flying start (terrible pun)!   We have a number of new faces joining our staff in January including our new Aboriginal Support Worker Mr. Clarence Mitchell and SEA Ms. Stella Kim – we’re so excited to welcome them to the Stafford family!  A new year comes with new hopes for what the year “could become” – there is an excitement of the possibility – and the beauty that lies in that.  I love how Neil Gaiman put it: “I hope that this year to come, you make mistakes…because if you are making mistakes then you are making new things, trying new things, learning, living, pushing yourself – changing yourself, changing your world.”

I hope for all our Skyhawk families that this year is filled with possibility, positivity, and opportunity to share your gifts and talents to enrich lives of those around you.

Here’s the SCOOP!

THE WEEK AHEAD AT HD STAFFORD

PICTURES FROM LAST WEEK!

NEW INFORMATION TO SHARE:

Welcome to HDSMS Mr. C. Mitchell:

We are incredibly excited to welcome Clarence Mitchell to our team as our new Aboriginal Support Worker. Clarence comes to us with a wealth of knowledge and lived experience and we are so happy to be able to learn from and with him. He was in the school at the end of the week and has already met some of our students! Please join us in welcoming him to the team and pop down to his office and say “Hi” at any time.

Welcome to HDSMS Ms. S Kim:

We are incredibly excited to welcome Stella Kim to our SEA team working with Lindsay and our complex resource team. Stella is new to the SEA position but has an amazing educational background, so be sure to ask her about it!   Please join us in welcoming her to the team and be sure to introduce yourself when you see her in the hallway!

Black Excellence Day:

This Friday January 13th is Black Excellence Day, which celebrated Black history, stories, art and people. It is a day to recognize the contributions of Black Canadians, to stand in solidarity, and to learn more about ongoing civil rights struggles. It coincides with Martin Luther King Jr. Day which falls on Sunday January 15th and is an American federal holiday which marks the birthday of Martin Luther King Jr.

Cold Temperatures and Winter Weather:

This week is calling for freezing temperatures and maybe even some snow. Just a reminder to reduce the risk of slip and falls during the icy weather: when possible, please tell your children to follow the designated walking paths and avoid shortcuts and unsalted areas. Also, walk slowly and deliberately in icy areas and expect the pavement and sidewalks to be slippery.

Also a reminder as the weather gets increasingly cold and wet,  please send your children to school with appropriate clothing and footwear as many students ( especially in the snow) do love to go outside!

Community Room Homework Club on Wednesdays! Let your Kiddos know!
