March 3, 2017
A full and busy week at HD Stafford Middle School. So much to celebrate! Here’s the Hawk Squawk: March 3rd. Please be sure to share with your family and friends.
Grade Eights Get To Discover Trades: This past week, many of our grade 8 students got to head out to the University of Fraser Valley (Chilliwack campus) and participate in the Discover Trade event. They had the opportunity to engage in some real-life, hands on trades including heavy duty mechanics, make-up, culinary arts and construction (to name a few). They also got to watch the finalist of the high school trades competitions. It was awesome students got to see first-hand what possibilities are in front of them in the area of trades.
Castles Emerge Around HDSMS: One of the favourite units for many of our grade eight students is the Medieval Studies. Students immerse themselves in different role playing games, have a wonderful feast and work collaboratively to build intricate models of castles. As you wandered the halls you could see these 3-D images develop and the final results were awesome!
20 Year Pins: We are blessed with such an amazing staff here at HD Stafford Middle School This past week, the Langley School District took time to recognize years of service in our schools and three of our staff were represented! Ms Forbes is one of our amazing teachers, who was recognized for 20 years in Langley schools. Also Mrs Pawelchuk and Mrs Mintenko, two of our SEAs, were celebrated for twenty years in our district. Congratulations and thank you for all you have done for Langley students.
Skiing/Snowboarding Whistler Trip: One of the things many of our students take advantage of is our annual skiing/snowboarding trip. This year we went to Whistler with 41 students and they had an absolute blast. The weather was perfect and the conditions excellent. The kids had an amazing time. Huge thanks to Mr Hendy for organizing the day and for Ms McArthur for going as a chaperone.
Staff vs Student Basketball Game: As a celebration of another amazing season, the grade 8s played against our staff in another epic inter-school battle. The students played extremely well but the mad skills of the staff proved too much as the emerged victorious. A huge thank you to ALL the coaches who ensured our students could play basketball this year. Next up is rugby and track and field.
