IMG_0727HDSMS Students Get A Taste Of LSS:
This week marked the first official event for our students, beginning the transition to Langley Secondary School. On Friday our grade 7 and 8 classes went down to the local high school to get a little taste of what awaits them in the future. They had the opportunity to try first-hand the LSS Science IMG_0741labs, PE facilities, Art rooms, technology and much, much more. And of course, the morning was rounded out with a delicious pizza lunch! It is such an exciting time as our students, particularly our grade 8s start to think about the next stage of their formal education. Thank you to everyone at LSS for making this such a great day!

IMG_0716Grade 8s See The Light: As part of their current Science unit, the students in Ms Donaldson’s class have been experimenting with light. They first learned about the breakdown of light by using a prism to make rainbows. Then, they were given a variety of challenges to IMG_0715further understand the concept of reflection. They had to shine a laser off of mirrors, moving them so that they could hit a target on the wall. The students were engaged and especially enjoyed the success of hitting the targets.

IMG_9759.JPGHDSMS Grade 8 Basketball Playoff Bound: This is always an exciting time of year for our basketball program as the playoffs are just around the corner. And for the first time in three years, both of our grade 8 basketball teams have made the playoffs! Our girls program had a great season and are entering the playoffs looking for another deep run. And a huge congratulations to our boys team for not only having their first winning record in four years but for breaking a three year playoff slump by earning a spot! We will be cheering both teams on as they pursue a spot in the Fraser Valley Tournament.

IMG_1274A Visit To The Pet Shop: One of the things that makes our school so amazing is the diversity of our students. And it is great for us to provide wonderful experiences for our newcomers. This past week, Ms Yeung took our students to a local pet store so they could get a behind the scenes look at how the animals are taken care of while IMG_1270there and when they go to their new home. They had the chance to actually interact with the animals which was a huge highlight!

Life Skills And Tasty Treats: Our students in the Access program are always learning valuable life skills. Like all of our students, this is vital for their success beyond schooling. And this past week, they were IMG_1951learning some cooking skills by making French toast. They worked through every part of the process and the end result was amazing …. and tasty!
