February 10, 2017
Well that was certainly an interesting week. Nothing like Mother Nature to dictate how things are going to go. But even with a short week, we have some great things to celebrate at HD Stafford Middle School. Here is the Hawk Squawk: February 10th. Be sure to share with your family and friends.
Our Amazing Maintenance Crew: This past week brought record breaking snow along with freezing rain and sub-zero temperatures. And through it all, our District Maintenance crew as well as our own custodians were absolutely amazing is keeping our school safe when students were in session. Between clearing snow and keeping sidewalks salted, our grounds were ready to go when students arrived. Thank you very much!
HDSMS Compete in Robotics Competition: Last weekend, our Robotics teams boarded the ferry and headed over to the Island to compete in a regional event. The students have really been honing their building and coding skills this year and have enjoyed taking their talents on the road to see how they stack up against other teams. And most importantly, they are having a blast while learning tons. In fact, we are currently working on hosting a Robotics competition at HDSMS so everyone can get a taste of this awesome event. Stay tuned!
The Show Must Go On: Despite having Mother Nature disrupt the practice schedule of our actors in A Midsummer Night’s Dream the cast was ready to go on Friday for their final dress rehearsal before opening next week. Ms McArthur and the entire crew performed well in front of some of our own students as well as Blacklock Fine Arts students as they worked out the final kinks before opening night. We encourage all of Skyhawks Nation to come check out this great production next week, Tuesday thru Friday.
Learning For Life: Over the past two weeks, our students have been covering the healthy living components of the curriculum. And we have been lucky to have student nurses from Kwantlen with us to help out. They have been covering a variety of topics including reproduction, sexually transmitted infections and drug use. The main focus in all the lessons was the idea of self-empowerment and healthy choices. We are so thankful to have this expertise in our building.
Girls Develop Passion To Lead: We are so excited to have our P2L group up and running strong! These young ladies get together once a week to develop their own self-empowerment while developing strong leadership skills. They always have a blast with their activities while they are learning valuable life skills. Thanks to Ms McArthur, Ms Cooper and Mrs Yzerman for sponsoring this club.
