Hawk Squawk: December 18th

December 18, 2015

As we head into the winter break, on behalf of the entire staff here at HD Stafford Middle School, we want to wish you a very Merry Christmas and all the best in the New Year. Enjoy time relaxing with family and friends. Here is the Hawk Squawk: December 18th!

IMG_7446Holiday Spirit Week At HDSMS: This past week, our leadership group organized an entire week of spirit days. Mistletoe Monday, Tinsel Tuesday, Wrapping Wednesday, Toque Thursday and Frozen Friday were a ton of fun and sawIMG_6523 many students participate, earning points for their house teams. It was a great way to show some Skyhawks Pride as we get set for the Christmas season.

North Pole’s Got Talent: This past week saw our annual Christmas concert, this year titled North Pole’s Got Talent. Students, staff and parents were treated to a variety of different acts including singing, dance and drama. Was such a nice way to send us off into the Christmas holiday. A tremendous thanks to Mr Cavalli, Mr Rowe, Mr Main and Ms Van Nieuwkerk for all their work in putting this great show together.

IMG_6528The Dream Team Takes Flight Over the Eagles: It has been a very successful first term of intramurals here at HD Stafford Middle School. Many students participated in our handball league that played at lunch. After a very intense week of IMG_6526playoffs, the Eagles were crowned champions and earned the privilege of playing the “Dream Team” … made up of HDSMS staff. It was a great, fun event! Thanks to Mr Safiq for all his hard work in organizing this for our students. Next up is hockey and soccer after the break.

20151215_104642_resizedGrade Sevens Get Crafty: The students in Divisions 7 & 8 got into the holiday spirit this past week, by tapping into their inner creative side. They did several different crafts including making20151215_132149_resized home-made stockings as part of their festive Art unit. No question they had some fun and the results were pretty amazing.

Grade Six IFA Gets A Taste Of Government: This past week, the students in Ms McArthur’s class made a real-life IMG_20151216_094619connection to their unit on government by inviting in John Aldag. He is a Canadian politician, who was elected to represent the riding of Cloverdale—Langley City in the House of Commons of Canada in the Canadian federal election, IMG_20151216_0951182015. The students were able to ask him questions and learn about what politicians do and the processes of law in our country. It really is valuable when students are able to connect what they learn in school to the world around them.
